LeadershipJohn Rorer, Proprietor
In 1997, Rorer and his business partners purchased the Richard’s Whole Foods chain from founder Richard Downey’s wife. Over the next 8 years, the chain grew to 11 stores and the chain’s gross sales tripled, due in large part to Rorer’s strong business sense and vision for the company. In 2005, Rorer bought the business from his partners; setting in motion his plan and dream to see Richard’s reach its potential. In 2008, after aggressively repositioning the chain for future growth, Rorer decided the best way to grow and still maintain locally owned flavor was to franchise. The name Richard’s Foodporium was born to secure a trademark and help entrepreneurs in other markets expand the brand. Rorer has positioned Richard's to compete with the “Big Players” by creating a unique niche and brand. The décor combines bold color, warm wood and comfortable lighting. The concept and brand completely redefines the look, feel, and experience of what shopping for natural foods has long been. Rorer’s 26 years of experience in the natural foods industry include over 12 years of fine-tuning the operations of Richard’s Foodporium. The operational systems, management team, and level of detailed reporting and analysis available to a single storeowner compares to that of larger mass grocers in the industry. A driven management team with over 165 years of combined experience supports Rorer. |
After having owned and operated a number of other businesses, John Rorer got his start in the natural foods industry in the early 1980’s, managing a not-for-profit natural foods cooperative. In 1990, he went on to become one of the top producing Account Executives at Twinlab Vitamins. In 1994 he returned to retail, starting a natural foods store with two partners.
